Random Thought

"We have art in order not to die of the truth."
—Friedrich Nietzsche

Or is it the other way around? Is "art" the truth we use to combat the lies?

  1. Really great thought. I think it goes both ways - sometimes one and sometimes the other. That's the thing about art ...you can't define it. It's never absolute.

    1. When Pablo and i used to go to the bullfights and drink wine he would always lean over to me part way through the day and say this to me. I didn't get it then, and I still don't get it now. I love the ambiguity of art and all of the conversation and discussion that it stimulates, but this one is over my head. I've tried to think of circumstances where art was a lie that was used to expose the truth, but can't think of one. I can, however, think of many times where art was the truth that was used to expose the lies. I'm sure Pablo had examples to back up his claim, but he was drunk and slurred his speech so I couldn't understand what he said. I am hereby challenging Pablo to a quote battle.

Maybe one of Bill gates web spiders will submit that to BrainyQuote.
